Please Don’t Make Me Vote for Bernie Sanders
A plea from the sensible, practical, hopeful Midwestern voter….
My politics often flow into the world through my actions and not through my words, but I felt an urgency to share what I think that many are thinking.
Please don’t make me vote for Bernie Sanders.
As I sit here in my purple neighborhood, in my blue city (Saint Louis), in my red state (Missouri) I don’t want to vote for Bernie Sanders , and I think that there are many others like me. We struggle voting for anger. We struggle to believe that Sanders has any chance to unite us. We struggle to believe that voting for him helps us win seats in new places and grow the tent.
Lots of Midwestern voters are sad about the last years of Donald Trump. We feel it has been a lost time in getting closer to the solutions that we need for big issues, and we realize from our work to create solutions in our local communities that change never comes when the pendulum just swings back and forth. Having to vote for Bernie Sanders feels like we are wasting more time.
We want action on education, health care, caring for our planet, and policies that promote the best of our humanity, and we know that democratic socialism isn’t how we get there. Bernie Sanders has ideas that sound good and are practically dead on arrival.
Our Midwestern practicality knows that Bernie Sanders is the best road forward for Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell to hold power, and this makes us sad, but we will survive with our neighbors through four more years. We will try to improve our lives and contribute to our society as best as we can with the sadness that comes with the reality of more wasted time.
Please don’t make me vote for Bernie Sanders.
