What collective aspiration does your organization truly have?
Every learning organization has an opportunity to pursue growth. It is central to the health and vitality of an organization. Too often, though, the need to complete the urgent overshadows the significant pursuit of a deeper learning. Design thinking, and the questions that emerge from this journey, build collective aspiration for those involved. It develops common language and understanding. They also allow for healthy patterns to be strengthened and unhealthy patterns to unhinge their hold on an organization.
Collective aspiration allows for learning organizations to name what they do best, not something many do well. Unearthing these though requires getting beyond the humble comments of “others do this better” and “we still have a long way to go” to naming the pieces of excellence that currently exist. All organizations need to maintain a pattern of relying on their strengths to propel them forward, but there can be a timidity in expressing, articulating, and celebrating these spaces of excellence.
